County Durham Intergenerational Network aims to bring generations together by supporting groups and organisations to develop intergenerational projects and share good practice.

The network ‘Gets Together’ several times a year in local areas for members and interested community members to share information about local intergenerational activities in their area.  Once a year we have a county wide ‘Get Together’ to show the wider intergenerational picture across County Durham.

The network is free to join and benefits include:

  • Invitations to network Get Together’s where we share information and good practice
  • Access to a Members Area of the Website
  • Resource materials and support in developing activities and accredited training for volunteers
  • Training including accredited courses for volunteers

Staying in touch

Our Get Together’s are free for anyone to attend and you can sign up on the day. A newsletter is also produced several times a year to promote Network Members intergenerational activities. Members of the Network receive regular updates through this website and can log on to access a web based resources pack full of useful information and ideas for intergenerational activity planning.

Who can join the Network?

Volunteers who have an interest in intergenerational activities, community groups or organisations who are involved in or wanting to start intergenerational activities can apply to become members of the network.

These may include:

  • Schools and colleges
  • Local history groups
  • Churches and other worship groups
  • Residents groups
  • Community associations and halls
  • Older peoples groups
  • Youth centres and groups and  many more…

Training

We deliver FREE Intergenerational Volunteering training for people aged 14-24 and over 50. Our accredited level 1 course is delivered over 10 hours and tailor courses to date and times to suit the participants, for example it can be delivered over two days or in two hour sessions for five weeks. Our accredited level 2 course is delivered in a range of training sessions and practical activities that total 30 hours and again can be delivered in a way that meets the needs of the participants. We also provide a one hour information session or two hours introduction to Intergenerational Volunteering training with a certificate of attendance.
