National Citizen Service (August to September 2013)

The Intergenerational Coordinator supported six groups of young people who had signed up to take part in the National Citizen Service to deliver intergenerational activities and increase awareness of Age UK County Durham. These activities included: In Easington Cakes on Wheel group raised funds for Age UK County Durham by selling cakes and providing intergenerational activities at three events.

A group of budding gardeners made raised beds for the residents of a care home in Billy Row. Two groups hosted Intergenerational activity days in Bishop Auckland College and Pelton Community centre where members of the local care homes and community took part in various activities. Another group of keen gardeners developed positive relationships with a local care home in Spennymoor and worked on their outdoor space and celebrated their work with a garden party for the residents. In a care home in Bishop Auckland a very enthusiastic group of young people interested in history hosted a 1940’s party for the residents including dressing up in the 1940’s style and have music from the era while serving lots of tea and cake.
